DETAILS

Old Cars Travel with Old Cars Magazine strives to operate according to our published itinerary. However, in the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond our control or opportunities that would enhance the itinerary, adjustments may be necessary.

Day 1, Thursday, August 29: ARRIVAL

Tour members arrange their own transportation to Berlin, Germany, and to the Intercity Hotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof, where a reservation has been made for them.

We will gather for a welcome dinner this evening (included in tour price).

Day 2, Friday, August 30: CITY TOUR BERLIN, CLASSIC REMISE BERLIN

Our tour will kick off with a walking city tour of Berlin. Learn important facts about Germany’s capital and discover the history of the city with a certified, multilingual city tour guide. See the most popular points of interest in the heart of Berlin. Learn about the exciting history and development of Berlin from the residence city of the Kingdom of Prussia to the capital of a reunited Germany. We will meet our city tour guide outside the Nikolaikirche Museum (St. Nicholas' Church Museum) and begin our exploration of the city. See Berlin´s highest building, the Television Tower. Walk along the Spree to the beautiful Museum Island, where you can see the Berlin Cathedral, the Old Museum, and the Humboldt Forum. There, admire the reconstructed Berlin City Palace. Across the Palace Bridge (Schlossbrücke), explore the historical center of Berlin and see impressive buildings from the times of kings and emperors.

After a morning of exploring the city, guests will return to the host hotel, then head out for the second half of our opening day doubleheader: a visit to the fabulous Classic Remise Berlin. This collection of classic machines is housed in a setting unlike any other in the old car world. An old tram depot built at the turn of the 20th century has been transformed into a huge old car clubhouse and showroom where car owners display their machines for others to see, and to gather and share their passion for all things automotive. The Classic Remise is not a museum — it’s better!

Day 3, Saturday, August 31: GERMAN MUSEUM OF TECHNOLOGY, FREE TIME IN BERLIN

The highlight of our day will be a visit to the amazing German Museum of Technology. Founded in 1982, it is one of the most visited museums in the capital and is considered one of the leading technology museums in the world. The “raisin bomber” on the facade of the new building has become an internationally known landmark.

Located on the historic site of the Gleisdreieck transport hub and the Anhalter freight station, it invites you to take an eventful and enjoyable journey through the cultural history of technology. Covering 26,500 square meters, it offers fascinating exhibitions on aviation, shipping, rail transport, automobiles, film technology, computer history, chemistry and pharmacy and much more.

Automobiles have been part of the collection since the beginning. The backbone of the collection belonged to a local collector, who sold it to Daimler-Benz, who in turn donated it to the city. Over the course of 35 years, the exhibition of cars changed concepts and places many times. The current exhibitions look at the history of cars from various angles, like their function (racing, goods transportation, people's car, etc.) or technical attributes (origin of its engine, body style, etc.). The exhibition shows cars made in Germany, Sweden, France and so on.

After departing the museum, guests will enjoy free time to explore some of the culture, sights, and sounds of Berlin on their own.

Day 4, Sunday, September 1: THE MAYBACH MUSEUM

The main attraction on Day 4 is the Museum of Historical Maybach Vehicles in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Bavaria. Maybach vehicles from the 1920s and ‘30s are among the most coveted and revered in the world, and the Maybach Museum is the only shrine in the world dedicated exclusively to telling the Maybach story. Only a small number of Maybach vehicles still exist, and the Maybach Museum has 16 of them on hand, displayed in a historic building that has been turned into a stunning modern classic car palace. We’ll spend the morning exploring these unique exhibits that tell the story of the Maybach engine construction, its vehicles, engines, and transmissions. Historic engines, transmissions and axles as well as interesting displays, models, and short films round off the exhibition.

On the second half of our day, we will travel by coach bus to Stuttgart with lunch on the way and dinner at our second host hotel in Stuttgart. And it’s not just any hotel — guests will be in for a rare automotive treat with four days and nights at the V8 Hotel Motorworld Region Stuttgart. The hotel is a haven for car lovers, with car-themed architecture and themes at every turn — and no two rooms are the same! If you ever wanted to have a bed shaped like a race car, this is the place!

Day 5, Monday, September 2: CITY TOUR STUTTGART, FREE TIME IN STUTTGART

The second half of our tour will get rolling with a walking tour of Stuttgart led by an experienced tour guide. We will discover landmarks such as the Town Hall, public squares (such as Schillerplatz and Palace Square), and the Art Deco-era Markthalle. We will visit an old gathering place known as Marktplatz and see the town hall, explore the food paradise known as Markthalle, and walk past Freidrich Schiller Square.

Later in the day, guests will be free to see more of Stuttgart on their own before reconvening for dinner at the hotel. Rest assured, there is much to see! Animal and nature lovers can plan a stop at Wilhelma: A unique combination of zoo and botany in Germany's only zoological and botanical garden. Walk down Königstrasse. Known as the shopping mile, it is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Germany. To get a glimpse of history and a great view at once, head to Birkenkopf. Also known as Rubble Hill, this hill has been built up by rubble and remnants of war. With the Staatsgalerie,Stuttgart Opera House, Liederhalle, Porsche Arena, Stuttgarter Ballet, Staatstheater, and Kunstmuseum, Stuttgart has many performing arts centers and theaters to choose from. The Stuttgart ballet and Opera house are world-renowned with year-round shows, and many are centrally located downtown in the heart of the city.

Day 6, Tuesday, September 3: PORSCHE MUSEUM, PORSCHE FACTORY TOUR

One of the big days of our trip — a power-packed Porsche doubleheader! We will head to the Porsche Museum and Porsche factory for guided tours of each iconic facility. The Porsche Museum fills three floors in a beautiful shrine that accelerates the pulse of any performance car fan. Truly a place for everyone, with car lovers and enthusiasts coming from all over the world to share the experience together.

The Porsche Factory Tour is simply one of the most memorable factory tours you’ll find anywhere in the world. Get lost in the history and amazing technology. See how the magic happens and dream machines are assembled — by hand! Watch the expert engine builders at work and see how a cutting-edge facility building some of the world’s most iconic machines operates from the inside. It’s an experience no true car lover will soon forget.

The day will conclude with dinner back at our hotel.

Day 7, Wednesday, September 4: MERCEDES BENZ FACTORY, MERCEDES BENZ MUSEUM

No automotive adventure in Germany would be complete without a stop at the Mercedes-Benz Factory and Museum, both located in Stuttgart. The museum is unlike any building you’ll ever see — a dazzling "double helix" landmark with 178,000 sq. ft. of room that has been turned into a home for more than 160 spectacular vehicles. See some of the earliest and most important automobiles ever built in a fantastic, ultra-modern setting.

The massive factory in Sindelfingen is home to more than 21,000 employees, who produce CLS, S-Class, E-Class, Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach masterpieces. Opened in 2020 but with roots reaching back more than 100 years, the huge assembly plant is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in the world. See for yourself why car fanatics come from all over the globe pilgrimage to this Mecca of the Mercedes brand.

This exhilarating day will conclude with dinner at our hotel, where we can share stories and photos from our exciting day.

Day 8, Thursday, September 5: DEPARTURE

Our week of being immersed in Germany’s extraordinary car culture comes to a conclusion with breakfast at the hotel. Tour guests are free to continue their travels or return home.
